Code of Silence
By Gary Nickerson

A sudden crackling sound
that interrupts the air
another person dies
another family in despair

Some know who they are
these stalkers of death
yet their voices fall silent
like the victim’s last breath

It’s the code of silence
that’s known in the hood
you dare say a word
cause it’s well understood

Go about your business
watch what you say
cause if you don’t
it could put you to lay

Chorus:
It’s the code of silence
That we all understand
Keep to yourself
And you won’t see the man

It the code of silence
And it’s well understood
Keep to yourself…

Is the message from the hood
